It’s quite daunting looking at a map of the world, planning 100,000km worth of riding in one small stroke of the pen and knowing only half the guts and determination it will take to make it a reality. The good part is that, with the little money I have, I won’t be able to afford a plane ticket to some remote and exotic corner of the earth, and so the expedition will have to start from my front door in my home town of Newcastle, Australia.
Stage 1 will involve:
-
starting in Newcastle and cycling up the east coast of Australia to somewhere near Townsville, hang a left and ride past the Gulf of Carpentaria through Kakadu National Park and into Darwin (COMPLETED!)
-
hitching a ride to Indonesia on a yacht and getting dropped off on some island to the west of East Timor (COMPLETED!)
-
cycling along the Indonesian Archipelago and crossing the Malacca Strait into Singapore (COMPLETED!)
-
cycling Malaysia and then into Thailand (COMPLETED!)
From here, the expedition could end up in a lot of places depending on where I can stay in Asia. Thailand is as good a place as any to stop and rest up for a while let the winter pass over the Himalayas and organise lots of paper work for the push into China.
