None of this expedition could be possible without the help and support of friends and family. Although the expedition is entirely self funded, I am asking for help with the equipment needed for the endless pedalling, bitterly cold nights and hungry mornings.
The support comes from the most unusual places. It could be a simple car horn and show of support while attempting a 1500 metre vertical climb; or a hot meal after a hard day’s cycling; or a generous offer of a dry barn to sleep in. It’s often been the people I meet along the way and the offers of support that inspire me to keep pedalling. In some small way, as our paths briefly cross and we share a gesture, a beer, a meal or engage in a short conversation, I’d like to think that, in some small way, I’ve enriched their life as they’ve enriched mine.
During the CSX these encounters and offers of assistance will be documented here. It’s not only words and gestures of encouragement, but could also be gear to keep warm while cycling through Tibet, a warm place to sleep or a handful of apples from a stranger. Together we can show the world that one act of kindness can change the lives of thousands. I hope to highlight how easy it is to bridge the divide between us and them and show that everyone laughs, everyone needs food and shelter and we all have the same basic needs and human rights.
Each act of kindness deserves recognition. So, to all those that have helped in the past and all those that may help in the future, it is your kindness that spurs me and reinforces my belief in humanity and for that I will always be indebted to you! So, THANK YOU!
