Hi, Chris.
Great to read of your experiences. I spent a year teaching English in China in 2004 and it was a remarkable experience. If you need to earn extra yuan, let it be known that you are willing to teach English for no less that 80 yuan an hour and you may find your fortunes expanding. You may also find the demand will be so great that you will have difficulty getting away to move on. I suggest that with your degree you won't have any trouble getting work but be very careful. Many of the schools are full of shysters so make sure you have it in writing and then don't think it is a binding contract - All you will be required to teach is spoken (oral) English and Australian culture. The more kangaroos, emu and koalas you can fit in the better and if you can get hold of "Finding Nemo" show it and they will talk of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge and ask all sorts of questions. I look forward to your next update.

Hey Dude,

Thanks for the plug - was a wonderful journey and I couldn't have done it without you! I'm now in the UK, 'quietly' admiring all the fearless cycle couriers buzzing around London's streets. Almost as daring as climbing to 4800m I reckon, almost. My new blog concept is coming together with some input from Shaz and Red Beard. You're gonna laugh when you see it!

Big hugs to you and Christophe too!

Hi Chris,

Happy 1st anniversary from me as well!!! I'm really glad that you have safely achieved this milestone, and have experienced so much to boot. I recently went on a tour of Northern Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia for a month and absolutely loved it - I honestly think I came back as a different person! Everybody should experience travel for the eye-opening experience that it is.
Anyway, keep well and my wishes are with you for the next successful year of your trip!

Regards,
Janet (from Townsville)

Hi Chris
Andy & I rode over Stockton Bridge last week - a year after we rode with you on your first few kims. This time it was peak hour and the trucks seem to have multiplied, along with the coal.We were training for our very sedate French Bike ride along the Canal de Midi - planned for next week - before the Icelandic Volcano interupted. Just sometimes it seems that cycling around the world may be less complex than flying. Its been great to read about your experiences, keep it up. You have had an amazing time and one year down .. it has flown past. Looking fwd to meeting up with Michelle & Jess in Italy. Lets hope Europe is not plunged into darkness. Happy travels, Sue

Good to hear form you Belinda!

It truly humbles when I hear such kind words, particularly from friends of old I haven't spoken to in a long time.

Perhaps it was fear not courage that started this journey, the fear of living a life less ordinary. Whatever it was, I haven't looked back!

Happy Cycling, C.

'...partly because I fear criticism...' Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do- (B. Franklin)

Chris,

Congratulations on your one-year anniversary!! :) It sounds like you are a journey in more ways than one!

I know that many people live the daily grind and dream about doing something like this (me included!) but never actually do anything more than verbalise it. Much respect to you for being an individual with enough courage to step outside of the box and live your dreams.

There's certainly no criticism here. How could there be? What you are doing is refreshing, uplifting and inspiring. I WISH I WOULD (not could 'coz I can!) do something like this and hopefully one day I will.

Keep your chin up and your heart and mind open.
Safe travels,
Belinda
